BoscoSeven: so how are youJake8fire: Okay.... being confused about the concept of Abstract Impressionism.
BoscoSeven: well BoscoSeven: good luck with all of thatJake8fire: No wait.
Jake8fire: Abstract Expressionism.
BoscoSeven: oh Jake8fire: I want to know why they call it that. They say it's all about the movement, the creation, the subconscious, the emotions... but then why do they all have to have a certain look?
Jake8fire: Why can't it just be what I want it to be?
BoscoSeven: hahaJake8fire: It's not expressionism, it's a bunch of stylized formulas by pompous, stereotype pseudo-intellectuals.
Jake8fire: I guess that's okay if that's what you want, but just don't call it expressionism.
BoscoSeven: why notJake8fire: Because it's not. To be considered AE, one's paintings have to follow certain guidelines. But that's defying the entire concept of the abstract movement.
Jake8fire: Which is to let your subconscious make the painting, and to focus more on the creating than the creation.
Jake8fire: Since no one's emotions are going to be the same, why should their paintings have to be?
BoscoSeven: right
Right?
Maybe I just don't understand a key concept. I can't really recreate the style. Like, I can tell when I've done something right, but I can't identify what's right beforehand, in order to do it purposefully. Is that the way it's supposed to be?
Two days is what we got to learn the history of, the technique, and complete our own projects. Which basically boils down to less than 2 hours. So I guess I can't expect to understand it. I hope we get to spend more time on the movement, I really like what I've seen so far. I think I would understand it better if we had spent more time studying the beginnings, the concept, and artists that are part of the style.
Lehner's demonstrating for us tomorrow. We'll see....
